MY MOON IS IN TAURUS – WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Your moon sign is your inner self, your emotions, the “you” you don’t show to people. If your moon is in Taurus, you are likely someone whose emotions are stable, and you aren’t someone who goes from extreme to extreme easily. It’s not that you don’t feel, but your feelings are usually grounded in a calmness that recognizes how fleeting emotions can be. As the fixed Earth sign, Taureans are solidly connected to the stabilizing power of Mother Earth. You are not a daydreamer but a doer.

Those with their moon in Taurus may find it difficult to connect with their intuition or to “see the bigger picture” sometimes. We’d recommend wearing or carrying moonstone, blue aventurine, or labradorite to activate those Third Eye and Crown chakras that Taurean moons might feel blocked off from.

LUNAR ECLIPSE IN TAURUS

A lunar eclipse occurs when the sun and moon are opposite each other in the sky, and thus they only occur during a full moon. The light of the moon is “eclipsed” by the Earth’s shadow, and can sometimes look red. This is why total lunar eclipses (when 100% of the moon is in Earth’s shadow) are sometimes called “blood moons.” This week’s lunar eclipse is classified as a “partial” lunar eclipse because about 98% of the moon will be in shadow, but it is best to think of this as a near-total eclipse – the energy will be intense!

The Lunar Eclipse in Taurus will be the longest-lasting eclipse in almost 600 years, spanning several hours. It is also the first in a series of lunar and solar eclipses which will occur on the Taurus-Scorpio axis over the next year and a half. From now until the middle of 2023, all eclipses will be in one of these two signs. What does this mean? Scorpio and Taurus are both signs that prioritize finances – Taurus is concerned with personal finances and security, while Scorpio drives things like the stock markets. During this time, you can expect shifts in your finances, or you may feel called to change your financial strategy and planning. You may also see more large-scale financial shifts, such as in the stock market or with big businesses. This is not the best time to make large purchases, as eclipse energy can be unpredictable. If you’re thinking about making a big purchase, use this time to refresh your financial know-how, crunch some numbers, and do the research to make sure you get the best value for your hard-earned dollars.

As we are still in the sign of Scorpio for a few more days, this is also a time when secrets will come to light in one way or another. This isn’t something to panic about, but do pay attention to the information that comes your way at this time.

This Lunar Eclipse, as the start of the Taurus-Scorpio eclipse season, will give us a good idea of the things to come in the next year and a half. It may be helpful to journal about your experiences this week and keep note of what happens in your life and in the world during each of these eclipses.

FULL Moon Ritual:
Balancing Mind and Body

With the grounded physicality of the Taurus full moon combining with the emotional and intuitive lunar eclipse, this is the perfect time to connect the often disparate parts of ourselves, the body and mind. This ritual will help put our minds and bodies into balance and help them communicate with each other.

Materials:

  • Palo santo or your favorite incense
  • Black or red ritual candle
  • Purple or white ritual candle
  • Red jasper
  • Aragonite
  • Moonstone
  • Labradorite
  • Some music or drumming to listen to (we recommend this one)
  • Optional: symbol of balance such as the Dagaz rune or the double spiral

1. Create a sacred space:

Begin by clearing your space with palo santo or your favorite incense. Palo santo is a gentle cleanser that will rid any unwanted energy without disturbing the space too much. Using your favorite incense, especially a strong-smelling one, will help make the physical aspect of this ritual more potent.

For this ritual, you may need a bit of space to move around, so make sure you have a small area cleared beside your altar or wherever you choose to perform this ritual.

2. Prepare your ritual:

Set up your altar or dedicated space by placing the black or red candle on the right side, and the purple or white on the left. Black and red both represent groundedness and connect with the Root chakra, while purple and white are connected to the Crown chakra and represent Higher Consciousness and intuition. If you’d like, add the balance symbol between the two candles.

Arrange your crystals on your altar or dedicated space. Red jasper and aragonite can help you ground into your body through the Root chakra – place these near the black or red candle. Moonstone and labradorite help connect with your spirit and intuition, and will represent the mind/spirit aspect of this ritual. Place them near the purple or white ritual candle.

If you haven’t already, start the music.

3. Perform your ritual:

Start by lighting the black or red candle. As you light it, say the words, “I am grounded and connected to the earth and my body. I am present. I am here.” Take a moment to connect with your breath, feeling the air enter your lungs and leave again.

Next, light the purple or white candle and say, “I am elevated and connected to my Higher Consciousness. I trust my intuition.” Take a moment to connect with your thoughts as they pass. No need to send them away, but take notice of them as they come and go.

As the music continues to play, allow yourself to enter a relaxed state. In order to connect the mind and the body, we are going to check in with the body and bring our conscious awareness to it.

Begin with your left foot. Can you actively feel your left foot? Is it tingly or tense? What is touching your foot? Can you feel the floor, socks, shoes, etc.? Now wiggle your toes and move your foot around. Does it feel different now? If you feel lots of muscle tension, release it by stretching or massaging that area. Your body is communicating with your mind and telling it what it needs – be sure to listen. Once you feel finished with your left foot, start again with the right. Repeat this process until you’ve checked in with every part of your body. If you notice your thoughts wandering, let them be. As soon as you notice that you haven’t been concentrating, simply return to your body at whichever part you left off. This is not always an easy process – have compassion for yourself and don’t get discouraged if you find it difficult to concentrate.

You may feel called to move your body at this time by stretching, dancing, or a combination of both. Allow yourself freedom of movement – don’t worry about how you look. This is your time to connect with your body in the way that you feel most comfortable. Throughout this process, maintain conscious awareness of your body – how does it feel when you move this way? What sorts of sensations are you experiencing? Do this until you feel called to stop, and make sure to listen to your body’s messages. If your body doesn’t want to move at all, don’t force it.

You are now connected in mind and body, consciously aware of your presence in the physical plane. If you can do so safely, let the candles burn out completely (about 2 hours).

Ritual on the Run:
Mindful Journaling

A quick 5-10 minute ritual for when you’re busy!

Materials:

  • Ritual candle in a color of your choice
  • Journal
  • Pen

1. Perform Your Ritual:

Begin by lighting your candle. Invite your awareness in as you focus on the flame of the candle for a moment. Take a few deep breaths as you settle into your space. You can choose a candle of any color, but black, red, or green are all good choices for connecting with the earth and the Root chakra.

For this exercise, you are going to write down your observations in the physical world. Often, journaling is about processing emotions and mental activity, but for this ritual all that matters is what’s in front of you. Invite your senses to guide you.

Begin with your sense of sight. What do you see in front of you? What colors, shapes, textures are there? Has anything changed that you’re just now noticing? Resist the urge to stray from simple observation – it’s tempting to write, “I see a pile of papers, which reminds me I need to pay that bill, after I call the doctor, and oh, I need to clean the bathroom…” Give yourself permission to lay these things to the side, just for a few moments. What color are the papers? Are they all the same material? Do any of them have interesting fonts or graphics? This is the point of the exercise.

Repeat the exercise with your other senses. What can you hear? What can you feel? How is the temperature? Reach out and touch something in front of you – what texture is it? How does it feel against your hand? Can you smell anything? How does that smell make you feel? Does it remind you of anything?

You can repeat this ritual as often as you like, even every day, to help you connect with the world around you. If you can do so safely, allow the candle to burn out completely (about 2 hours), otherwise extinguish the flame and return to it later.
