As we enter into Capricorn season, the planet Venus enters retrograde motion. In fact, the full moon in Gemini, Capricorn season, and Yule all occur within just a few days of Venus going retrograde – be prepared to feel a dramatic shift in the energy. This isn’t time to panic, though! While retrograding planets get a lot of hype and concern nowadays (looking at you, Merc!), retrograde periods are simply calling us to slow down and evaluate where we are and where we’re going. When Venus retrogrades, she is asking us to be cautious and compassionate with all matters of love, values, aesthetics, and finances. Read below for more information about how each of these areas of our lives may be affected, and ways we can best use Venus Rx for our higher good.
VENUS: GODDESS OF LOVE, SEX, AND BEAUTY
The planet Venus is named after the Roman goddess who ruled over all things romantic and aesthetic, whose Greek counterpart was Aphrodite. She represented the divine feminine and was closely associated with water and the ocean, where she was born. Mythological tales about Venus often have to do with sexual encounters and aesthetic judgments, but it’s important to remember that she was also a mother to her son Cupid (Greek Eros). When we think of Venus, all forms of love – not just lust – are at play.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING VENUS RX IN CAPRICORN
AESTHETICS
Venus rules our aesthetic tastes, what we find beautiful in this world. When Venus enters retrograde, our perceptions of design, style, and beauty can be skewed. This isn’t a good time to reinvent your wardrobe or make over your living space. When Venus stations direct, we may find that the aesthetic decisions we made during her retrograde period weren’t actually what we want.
Because our perceptions are skewed, beware of issues of body image and self-worth during this time. It may be harder to love the way you look in the mirror. You may find it hard to get dressed in the morning because “everything looks bad” on you. It’s especially important during Venus retrograde to speak kindly to yourself, especially about body image. Rather than scrutinizing your look in the mirror, practice speaking affirmations to yourself as you get ready in the morning.
LOVE
Venus is the goddess of love and sex, and when her planet goes retrograde these areas may suffer. If you’re in a committed relationship, be on the lookout for moments of frustration or miscommunication. There’s no reason to panic – Venus retrograde brings our relationships to their natural state. If a relationship just isn’t working, expect that to come to a head at this time. This may sound ominous, but trust that Venus is shining a light on the best possible outcome for relationships, even if it feels uncomfortable.
If you’re starting a new relationship, don’t be surprised if it starts out rocky. This doesn’t mean that it’s doomed to fail, just that with Venus retrograde at work it may be harder to get to know someone or feel connected.
Because we may feel uncomfortable in our skin, it might be harder for us to connect sexually with ourselves and our partners. Make sure that you know what you’re getting into with a sexual partner and take care of your own needs. Remember, your comfort is the most important thing in a sexual encounter or relationship.
VALUES
This winter, Venus retrogrades in the sign of Capricorn, who rules over our family values, traditions, and outlook on life. As we move into the holiday season, chances are we’ll all be around family more than usual. Just like with romantic relationships, we may find it difficult to connect to our loved ones while Venus is retrograde, and it’s especially important to lead with compassion for them and for yourself.
Our values have all shifted in the last two years and in the period since the last Venus retrograde (which ended in June 2020). Now is a great time to look back and reflect on the ways in which you’ve grown and changed, and how you view the world. What do you value most? What maybe isn’t so important anymore? MONEY
Venus and Capricorn both affect our finances – Venus retrograde isn’t the best time for large purchases or big financial changes. Instead, it might be good to take this time for research and gaining financial literacy. That way, you can come out on the other end of Venus Rx armed with the knowledge to make those large purchases or investments.
