MY MOON IS IN ARIES – WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Your moon sign is your inner self, your emotions, the “you” you don’t show to people. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and a fire sign; if you have an Aries moon, you probably have a lot of energy and passion, especially when it comes to your emotional life. You aren’t afraid to act and you most likely don’t take time to labor over decisions (something that Libra, your zodiacal opposite, struggles with!). With this spontaneity, though, you need to be careful of acting too quickly. Wear or carry hematite or amazonite to bring balance to your decision-making.
As the first sign of the zodiac as well as a cardinal sign, Aries carries the energy of new beginnings. It also has a childlike energy, which can manifest as impulsive or rash behavior, or as joy and wonder for the world around you. You likely feel both of these qualities at times. You are deeply connected to your inner child, and it’s important to honor and nourish that child. If your emotions feel too big to carry at times, we recommend wearing lava to promote emotional balance.
NEW MOON RITUAL:
SELF-COMMITMENT
Aries folks are often accused of being selfish, but that’s not always a bad thing. If we aren’t putting our own needs first, who will? Aries teaches us that it’s not selfish to look out for yourself, stick up for yourself, and – most importantly – love and respect yourself. This ritual is designed to help you make a promise to yourself that you will work towards filling your own cup before you pour out for others.
This is designed as a bath ritual, but can be adapted for showers (see below)
MATERIALS:
- Palo santo or incense of your choice
- Rhodonite
- Rose Quartz
- Pink 7-day candle
- Epsom salt
- Rose, lavender, or eucalyptus essential oil and carrier oil for dilution
- Rose petals
- Tea of your choice.
- Optional: your favorite music
1. PREPARE YOUR RITUAL BATH:
Run your bath. As it runs, add about a cup of Epsom salt, some rose petals, and your essential oil. Be cautious: essential oils are extremely powerful and can cause irritation if not properly diluted. We recommend adding 5-6 drops of essential oil to an ounce of a neutral oil like olive, jojoba, or even vegetable oil, and then adding some of that mixture to your bath. Read more about essential oil safety here.
Allow the Epsom salt to dissolve into the water. Epsom salt removes toxins and helps relax muscles. We’ve included it in this ritual to enhance the self-care aspect.
Place your rhodonite and rose quartz crystals around the bath. You can use multiple of each crystal or simply one of each. Both stones are known for their self-love properties – in fact, rhodonite is called the “stone of self love!” And a bonus: both are water-safe so you can use them in the bath without worrying.
While the Epsom salt is dissolving, think about what you’d like to say to yourself as you commit to taking care of your needs. You can use our new moon affirmation or come up with your own words. If this feels like you’re writing wedding vows – that’s sort of the point! Speak to yourself as you would a loving partner or a trusted friend.
Brew your tea and place it (preferably in a durable cup that won’t break) on the edge of the bath.
Lastly, set up your candle nearby (safely!) and light it.
2. PERFORM YOUR RITUAL:
To perform your ritual, settle into the bath. You may want to bring some water to help you relax and stay hydrated, especially if the bath is really hot. Take a few moments to relax and breathe. One of the most important things we can do as self-care is to slow down. It may feel like you’re doing nothing, but taking this time for yourself is essential as a form of self-love. It doesn’t matter what else needs doing or who else needs tending to. Make a commitment to take this time for yourself.
When you’re ready, speak the words you came up with earlier. Focus your intention on what you’re saying, and speak it genuinely! These words are your promise to yourself to fulfill your own needs. This doesn’t mean closing everyone else off, being unhelpful, or refusing to take care of what needs to be done – it just means that you’re ready to include yourself when you make sure everyone is happy. In fact, when you care for yourself, you’re better equipped to help those around you.
Once you’ve spoken your words of commitment, drink your tea. As you drink it, visualize a cup inside your heart. As you feel the warm tea traveling through your mouth, throat, and chest, visualize it pouring love and happiness into your heart-cup. Hold this image in your mind while you drink the rest of the tea. Once the tea is gone, visualize the cup pouring all that love and happiness out into the world. The cup never runs out, and it is able to fill dozens, even hundreds of cups.
Once the ritual is complete, you may feel called to spend more time in the bath, focusing on your intention and relaxing. Take all the time you need, and when you’re ready, the ritual is finished.
SHOWER ADAPTATION:
- Combine Epsom salts, diluted essential oil, and rose petals in a large bowl. If you want, you can add the crystals into the mixture and let them sit, infusing the water with their properties. Otherwise, you can keep them nearby while you perform the ritual. Place the candle (safely!) nearby and light it.
- When you’re ready to perform your ritual, pour the water mixture over your head. This can be done in the shower or even outside. Perform the rest of the ritual as described above.
